I noticed that there was some question about what my video, Eurus in Love, means. And since I did spend quite a lot of time making it, I thought that it might be interesting to write up some notes on what I was trying to express with the video.

I didn’t want it to be too obvious, because art requires interpretation to really be effective, and a writer of Haiku once told me that a good Haiku only tells 60% of the story and makes you figure out the rest. Now I like to do at least 70% of the story so that people aren’t too confused, and that’s where the title comes in.

Eurus in Love.

Day 10

In your own space, talk about a creator. Show us why you think they are amazing. It can be a detailed, thoughtful analysis, or a squeeful, joyful post. Or maybe a combination of the two. Make a recs list, link to their archives or master lists or websites, maybe create a Fanlore page for them. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

At first I didn't know who to pick and then I realized it. I would talk about my favorite Fan Video Authors. I have three.

AMY KINLEY
KATRINA DEPP
LIISA KEE

AMY KINLEY

Sherlock + John - ♪ 'Arrival of the Birds'by Amy Kinley
I can't tell you exactly what enchants me about this work. Maybe it's the calmness of the music. Maybe it's the flow of the images with fade into each other beautifully, I don't know. All that I know is that when it is on, I can't keep my eyes off of it.

The video has a poigniant, dreamlike quality that is very affecting. It illustrates the friendship between Sherlock and John without being too overt. I find it touching.

It's hard for video authors now. The copyright Nazis are everywhere and my favorite videos keep getting taken down. The first link, I think, is a repost and the video quality was lower than it was when I first saw it. Then again, it might be my browser. Just in case, I found another copy of this work on another site, and it has higher resolution. Take a look.

Tudou (Higher res)

Two other works by her are

SAIL
A powerful, innovative vid about Sherlock's relationship with Moriarty.

and

God Only Knows
A Sherlock and John vid that floored me with it's amazing use of video montage.

KATRINA DEPP
She is a fan video author, and I eat up everything that she makes. She has a way to piece together images and music that not only tells a story but also hits you right in the gut. I love her work.

Two of her works that show her awesomeness are

Who are you, really? | Doctor Who
A great introduction to the doctor.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIeDyx8iYxs

and

Geronimo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87x5BMlWvYU
my absolute favorite Dr Who video.
It's so fun and upbeat, I can't help but smile.

LIISA KEE
I only recently found this prolific vidder. If there is one word that sums up her work, it is THEME. She makes videos that focus on specific areas of a series using examples from many different episodes to show the consistency and the depth of the story.

Let her Go | Doctor & Companions(Doctor Who)

This is about how the doctor must always say goodbye to his companions in the end.

Would You Kill to Save A Life? // The Doctor

This one is about the hard choices that the doctor has had to make when he had to chose who would live and who would die.

This is my first post on this site.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Aless Nox and I write Sherlock Fan Fiction. Most of what I write can be found on Fan Fiction.net. I also occasionally make fan videos. I post them on You tube which blocks them after a few months.

It is a bittersweet world, the world of fan works. Caught between the dark and the light, the legal and the illegal. In the past people would write stories and then others would reference them. The Arturian Legends for example were told and retold until we have a rich variety of versions of the story. Fairy tales were told in new guises for new locations creating a richness of culture. Dr Faustus is written and rewritten as Faust. Histories are rewritten as Shakespeare plays. What if all these works were banned because they didn't have proper copyright permissions?

I see so much genius and creativity in the fan community and it hurts me every time I see someone post some disclaimer about how they don't own the work. Writing shouldn't be hostaged to some third party just because they own the rights. People should be allowed to tell stories if they want to creating new tales for our characters just as the tales of the nights of the round table are invented every new generation.

I am a believer in creativity and freedom, and I will post as if I live in a free world, even if I don't.
