fandom Showflake Challenge 2022 - #9

Challenge #9

In your own space, list your Fandom Wrap categories.

I had real trouble with this because I didn't know how to gauge how much time I spent on each of the things I did last year. If I were to guess, my top media platforms were...

1. Youtube
2. Tumblr
3. Viki (streaming service)
4. Archive of our own
5. Pillowfort

What are your top five fandom spaces in terms of time spent?
To figure this out, I counted the posts and reblogs on my tumbr account by hand. It was enlightening, because I found out that I almost never completely leave a major fandom. One of my first fandoms was Star Trek, and it just missed making it into the top 6 fandoms.
I decided it would be more fun to do this as a countdown so starting from 5, I will countdown to my favorite fandoms of 2021 by post and reblog count.
6. (The runner Up) Yuri On Ice
Apparently summer makes me think of Ice Skating because I went through a real Yuri on Ice posting kick in June and July. Here is one of the fanvids I reblogged back then.
Never Look Away - by Hannah

5. DANCE FANDOMS - Including STREET DANCE OF CHINA

I followed the actor Wang Yibo from one fandom into another. He was a leader on the show STREET DANCE OF CHINA which can be seen on You Tube, and I watched all of seasons 3 and 4. This re-activated my love of watching dances so much that I started a Youtube account just to do that. I also reblogged lots of dances that I had just found including this work by Lay that must have been inspired by the show (He was a host on SDOC as well).
LAY - Flying Apsaras
It is a fusion hiphop/classical dance named after flying fairies from Asian art.

(more below the cut)

4. GOOD OMENS
2021 brought us the Good Omens TV show which was excellent, and since I follow Neil Gaiman (one of the authors). I reblogged lots of posts about the show.
Including Heaven is a place on Earth - by Rebecca Hansson
The biggest buzz is for Good Omens II a story that they planned before Terry Pratchett's death, but which has never been published. I hope to see it come out this year.

3. WORD OF HONOR
This low-budget Chinese epic battle universe show was never intended to do as well as it did. This was mostly due to the two leads who never let you forget that this was originally written as a Male/Male romance. The Iconic fights and costumes, as well as the two villains redeemed by love story-line made this a story that I couldn't get out of my head. I especially loved watching the fan wielding Wen Kexing vamping it up.
Horns - Wen Kexing by Luna Blake
2. SHERLOCK
Sherlock is my fandom. It is the first fandom that I ever published fanfiction for, and despite the fact that it hasn't had any new content in a while, I don't think I will ever stop consuming works about it. I haven't been reading as many fic as I used to, but the fandom olds still reblog retrospectives, and I am a loyal listener to the THREE PATCH PODCAST which starts each month with lovely Sherlock and other fandom content.

1. THE UNTAMED / Mo Dao Zu Shi
With over 120 posts, the untamed ate me for lunch in 2021, and it still has a big part of me this year as well. This super world-building epic with zombies, reincarnation, sword fights, musical instruments, and romance is something I can't get enough of. After watching all 50 episodes, I watched the anime, the chibi anime MDZS-Q, then I watched the YouTube Fan commentaries, most of which are in Chinese. Then I read the online fan translations of the original novel. And in December, I got the OFFICIAL version of the novel (part 1) still waiting for the rest of it to be translated and shipped.

There is so much content for this work which spawned a manga, audiobook, fan concerts, and more fan videos than I can count. I haven't even started on the fanfic which I haven't even begun to consume, because I haven't finished reading the novel yet.
So many compelling characters. Wei Wuxian is a complex, misunderstood hero. Lan Wangji is a stoic, but deeply romantic and insanely loyal lover. And all of the other characters are amazing and worthy of their own works. The tyranny of the crowd. The confused loyalties. The weird love hate relationships between siblings, lovers, husbands and wives make this something you can really spend time with, and I did. Lots and Lots and Lots of time. And I loved every minute of it.
If you haven't watched it yet. What are you waiting for? Here are some fan music videos to get you started.

That was a beautiful video by maichan. I've had The Untamed in my queue for a while, that video inspires me to make time for it.

Hello. I haven't watched Word of Honor but my mom watches it on YouTube and she enthusiastically reacts whenever Wen Kexing is pursuing Zhou Zishu (especially when Zhou Zishu was disguised). I learned their names by listening to her watching Word of Honor. :D
